Cruises on the river Seine

Cruise with accommodation : a fast-expanding sector on the river Seine

The rapid development of the French market of river cruise with accommodation is fully profitable to the ports of the Seine corridor. This market segment has recorded a double-digit growth between 2012 and 2013 (+26 %) with around 70,000 passengers transported in 2013. The richness of the heritage and the sites of the Paris region (Ile-de-France) and Normandy close to the river itineraries is favourable to the continuation of the river cruise growth on the river Seine.

In 2014, 17 boats sail the river Seine, five more than in 2013. Two additional boats 110m long are expected for the next season and certain companies think about getting new-generation units, 135 m long, which will arrive from Le Havre by sea.

Real floating hotels

Like high-sea cruise liners, river cruise boats are real floating hotels with restaurants, shops and boutiques, entertainment rooms and theatres… Some of them reaching 135 metres long, they accommodate up to 190 passengers. Transported by French, German, Swiss, Austrian, Dutch or even American companies, tourists from the whole world then disembark in the very heart of the Paris Seine Normandy area.

The offer of the river Seine corridor

HAROPA with all partners (VNF and local authorities) offers river cruise operators :

  • A network of eleven calls from Paris to Le Havre at the nearest to the sightseeing places of the Paris Seine Normandy area ;
  • An offer of wintering with possibility of carrying out maintenance work in the HAROPA ports of Le Havre and Rouen.

An approach of aid to the development of river cruising

HAROPA and VNF set up a supporting scheme for the development of the sector in cooperation with the authorities and the various operators. This partnership approach aims at optimizing the infrastructure and the services and meeting the operators’ needs in the best way.
